The Great Falls College MSU Regional Science & Engineering Fair follows the rules from the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF). 

IMPORTANT PROJECT RULES

Before experimentation begins, the Montana Region II Science and Engineering Fair Scientific Review Committee (SRC) must review and approve projects involving human participants; vertebrate animals; potentially hazardous biological agents; and hazardous chemicals, activities, or devices. 

Note: If a project involves the testing of a student-designed invention, prototype, or concept by a human, an IRB review and approval may be required prior to experimentation.  

Please expect three to five working days for the local IRB/SRC to review your submission.

The 2024 Great Falls College MSU Regional High School Science and Engineering Fair is the only regional science fair in Montana and is affiliated with the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). The top two grand award project winners from the 2024 Great Falls College MSU Regional Science and Engineering Fair go on to compete at Regeneron ISEF. The 2024 event will occur May 11-17, 2024 in Los Angeles, CA. ISEF is a program of the Society for Science and the Public, the world's largest international pre-college science competition.  

The 2024 Great Falls College MSU Regional Middle School Science Fair is affiliated with the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge program of the Society for Science & the Public. Thermo Fisher JIC nominations are available to the top 10% of the estimated middle school (grades 6, 7, & 8) participants.

What to Expect During the Fair

The judging process will take place in-person.  Judges will need a smart device to input scores and comments into the online system. 

As a student will be able to present your research and board to the judges.  

 

 

Biological Sciences (6-8)
Biological Sciences involves the study of living things and their vital processes.
Elementary (K-5)
Engineering Project (9-12)
Engineering Projects may involve designing, building, analyzing, modeling, or improving a device.
Physical Sciences (6-8)
Physical Science involves the nonliving physical world. Some of the subjects are astronomy, chemistry, geology, physics, math, and meteorology.
Scientific Project (9-12)
Scientific Projects involve making observations, forming questions, making hypotheses, doing an experiment, analyzing the data, and forming a conclusion.

Judging Criteria

All Great Falls College MSU Regional High School Science Fair projects will be judged using the following criteria:

The top two projects in the high school division will advance to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
